"Getting started" for foreign visitors

Ok, many of you have spotted some problems with our loved "world's 2nd hardest language" finnish.  ;D

So I came up with the idea of starting this topic in order to help you who are not quite familiar with some of the buttons and commands you need using this BBS.

For domestic users: help me out with this thing and if you find something that might be useful to our foreign friends, just reply here.

Just for starters (finnish->english):

vastaus - reply
vastaa lainaten - quote
muokkaa - modify
poista - delete
lähetä - send
esikatselu - preview
ilmoita valvojille - report to administrators
merkitse luetuksi - mark as read

aloita uusi aihe - start new thread
aloita uusi äänestys - start new poll

In registration:
Valitse käyttäjätunnus - Choose Nickname
Sähköposti - Email
-- Piilota sähköpostiosoite muilta - Hide email
Valitse salasana - Choose password
Vahvista salasana - Verify password
Kuvallinen varmistus - Graphic verification
-- Kuuntele kirjaimet - Listen letters.
-- Pyydä uusi kuva - New picture

If you register - you can change your language from "profiili" (=profile) -> "Perusasetukset" (=Basic settings) -> "Käytetty kieli:" -> English.

Oh sure, NOW you make this post on what the word Sähköposti means ;D When I first tried to post on your web site here, it wouldn't let me, I kept getting sentences in red lettering with the word Sähköposti in it. I forgot how I figured out that Sähköposti meant e-mail adress though...

Hello, It means (sss) nick already used by someone else. Try to change your nick.

Nice to have you here . I would like to hear what kind of laws you got out there when it comes to tuning up your cars? Can you put almost any engine in your car or do you have stupid regulations about power, displacement and weight of the new engine like we have here?

We have a very stupid system for this > If our car is registrated after 1/1 1996 we have to pay full import tax for the extra power. This import tax over 200 Hp is very large. For a 200 Hp gain i think we have to pay 25000 euro. So my car have "200 Hp"

Aaarrgh... That sucks, big time. So, if you put a very large turbo in, you just say that "old one went to pieces, this is just replacement" and give them a.. well.. tuned dynofigure to look at. If so, it sounds kind of familiar ;D

Then they will take the car to a new dyno test, and make me pay for the dyno and the extra power :'(

Sorry, I am a bit slow. I tried putting the language to English like you said but got this message and I tried using a translator but that did not help. Maybe you can help me?

It means that when updating profile settings, you need to always also input your password. So when you go to "Perusasetukset" and change the language from Finnish to English, also type your password into the bottom field that says "Nykyinen salasana" and then click on the "Muuta profiilia" button.

You always need to give your password when updating profile.

I edited your profile and set the language to English.

Thank you for the help. I was sitting there trying to go back and forth between the given translations and what was written. First time reading Finnish so it is a bit daunting.
