Hello from the USA!

vihis Wrote:Hi,

Good luck with the build, hoping to see alot of project pictures in the future.

You have a lot of fancy bits there and that OEM filter sticks out from the crowd ! Why not try a Nismo Veruspeed one ? They're not very expensive and seem effective.

Quote:Features 21% less pressure loss, 24% increase in filtration, 10% less flow resistance, and 37% increased life.

I meant oil filter! Sorry, I had been looking at the fuel pieces and thinking fuel fuel fuel so it got stuck in my mind.

As for importing Skylines, it really is that difficult. A law was passed stating any vehicle under 25 years old that was not built to be sold directly in the USA cannot be brought into the USA. However, some people found a loophole with that. So long as the car is shipped over to the US as a kit car in several different pieces, it can be titled under the status of a kit car but legally will not be called a Skyline. It isn't uncommon to find an R34 GT-R for 60k and above.

I thought some of you may be interested in this. We had a photoshoot at the shop a couple days ago for a customer's car. Enjoy!

Wow, its been a while! First I have a question for you all. Do threads EVER get to a 2nd page on these forums? Tongue This is the longest first page i've ever seen!

Secondly, and more importantly, the pistons/rods and crank are IN the block! Yeah, our progress is horrible but we've been busy as the master builder himself has been out of town for the past week. The block was painted, so when I get a chance i'm going to have pics up for you guys! I'll try to snap up some pics of the head so you all can see the work that was done to it. Its coming along, even slowly. It'll get there!

I`m happy to help with the progress. The 240z looks amazing, what makes it even better looking, is what`s under the bonnet... In youtube your profile is shown as student, how the hell can you afford all these parts?? Almost like a wet dream for me! Anyways, it`s cool that someone like you got lost into a forum which is from the dark northern europe. Big Grin

Keep it up! (Especially on updating progress on your 260GT-ZR (?) ;D

Hanska, in truth this project has been more of a budget build than anything. My boyfriend called in a few favors from people over the years from different automotive circles. This allowed us to keep the prices down to a ridiculous level. In truth he's footed more of the part bills than I have, though I do contribute to the project as well, when I can. I am, afterall, a college student. Wink

Now, to the good stuff. I have not forgotten about you, my international friends! I have pictures which have been long-awaited.

Here is the painted purple block. It may look a little pink-ish, but the picture doesn't do the color justice. We aimed for as close to a HKS purple as we could and I think we got pretty close.

Bearings were clearanced, then crank and piston assemblies went in!

Ported and polished, all ready to go!

Cams are in, too!

I discovered Nissan had built the head so well it didn't require much machining at all. Very impressive.

And just because I can't help myself...

The stripes have returned! However, this time in paint.

Outside the shop, taking a bath.

However, you know what they say...black is not a color, its a part-time job. An interesting little fact which seems to make people laugh a little. The purple I chose is actually a Mopar(Dodge) color! Its called Plum Crazy.

I'm not sure when more progress will be had on the motor, but we've got a Nissan meet coming up at the end of the month we'd like to have it assembled by. As for the shell itself, its collecting dust. Some work needs to be done to the engine bay before we paint it. We're getting there! ;D And believe me when I say were getting excited. I can't wait to hear it start up for the first time.

Just wondered if you used any oil during the engine assembly? E.g. engine head seems to be very clean in the pictures.

ASTech, oil was used, I guess Jonathan is just crazy clean when he assembles his motors. Don't want to mess anything up by not using lubrication! Here's a picture of a 2jzgte he built a few weeks ago.

That is how it always should be. Maybe he wiped needless oil away to not collect any dust etc.

Bodywork seems to be in perfect condition! Except for the few cracks on the front spoiler. Big Grin

Mmmm... The engine looks good. Are you going to keep it twin turbo`d?

The body hasn't been touched! I actually just cleaned up the paint a bit, so every crack, dent and discoloration in the paint still exists. The picture just gives it some life and actually looks like we did some work on it.

Its going to stay twin turbo'd for now, though eventually it'll probably get the single turbo treatment once Jonathan's appetite for horsepower grows. 1,000 should be sufficient for the time being.

A friend of ours was brought into the shop to snap a few photos of the car. Hope you all like the way the motor came out!

Wow, talk about back from the dead! I have a good excuse though. The owner of the shop we were at didn't seem to want to disclose information to his employees - ever - so we ended up just getting all of our stuff and leaving. However, in that time Jonathan and I found a partner to team up with and we are now opening our own shop!

I do have an update though. The motor has been sitting in the car waiting for the fuel system and wiring to go in. We're ordering the last few pieces it needs to get running this week, so if we can scrape the time together to work on it, we'll have it up and running by April! ;D I will take some pics of the car sitting at the shop for you guys.

The rest of the fuel fittings are in, the last coupler we need came in and we're waiting for a piece of intercooler piping so we can bend it and fit it. The car will go up in the air hopefully within the next week or two that way the fuel system can get put in and the wiring can go in after that at some point when we get some time.

Enjoy!

This week has actually been filled with progress! We were finally able to get the car in the air and found some surprised in the belly since the last time it was in the air(its been a very long time). Here are a few pictures to keep your mouths wet!

I would recommend you to baffle the twin turbo pipe for a much better flow, the stock design is flawed.
